EcoGay is located in the second most biodiverse country in the world: Colombia. Not only can you find about 10% of all existing species of plants and animals here, Colombia also has the largest number of species that do not exist anywhere else.
One of the reasons for this high number of species are the differences between the regions of the country. There are coastal areas (on the Pacific as well as the Caribbean coast), the eastern plains of the Orinoco region, the jungles of the Amazon rainforest in the southeast and the central mountains of the Andes.
EcoGay is located in these central mountains, a little to the west of the capital Bogotá, in La Mesa (Cundinamarca). The drive from the airport in Bogotá to the farm takes about 3 hours and goes through beautiful landscapes with endless views.
The equator is about 450 km south of us, which means we have a year long tropical climate. The sun rises around 6 AM every day, and sinks behind the horizon 12 hours later. Year round temperatures are around 22°C at night and between 28°C and 32°C during the day. It doesn’t get much warmer than that because we’re at 1200m above sea level. On rainy or foggy days it can be a bit colder.
